In the run-up to the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker on 20th December, Samsung and LucasFilm have just announced the latest of their collaborations. The Galaxy Note10+ Star Wars™ Special Edition will launch in stores on 10th December – and it looks pretty epic!
Star Wars: the collaborations
We’re seeing a lot of Star Wars cross overs lately. The most recent movie in the sequel trilogy, The Last Jedi, was released in December 2017. It’s been a long two years since for fans eagerly awaiting the release of The Rise of Skywalker, again just before Christmas.
LucasFilm are going in heavy on the collaborations to increase anticipation. We reported just last week about the Fortnite cross-over. This sees stormtrooper character skins available in the Fortnite store, with the hint of more to come.
There are also partnerships with Bose, United Airlines and Porsche, to name but a few.
Samsung say that their partnership with LucasFilm was formed because; ‘Samsung Galaxy products are designed for pursuing passions, and Star Wars fans are some of the most passionate fans there are.’
This collaboration was kicked off with the release of a campaign movie; check it out below!
So what is different about the Star Wars Special Edition?
Apart from the fact that it looks super cool? Not a lot!
The Galaxy Note10+ is a beast of a device. Released three months ago, it is still a new model to the market. The Note 10+ delivers a mighty 6.8″ OLED screen, a 4,500 mAh battery and a clever Bluetooth LE-enabled S-Pen. The 5G phone comes with a price tag to match, retailing from £999 in the UK Samsung Store.
Samsung have used Star Wars inspired graphics to create their Limited Edition. This offers the same functionality as the normal Note10+. What is different is the design.
The Star Wars Galaxy is made in black and red, with a matching S Pen. It comes with an embossed leather cover and is sold in a bundle with Galaxy Buds. Star Wars fans will also receive a collector’s metal badge in their package.
Speaking of packages, the box looks quite special too! The Limited Edition comes in smart black packaging featuring a Sith design. Tell me that doesn’t look epic.
Users will also have themed content. This includes animations, wallpapers, icons and sounds.
Where will the Note10+ Star Wars package be available?
There hasn’t yet been confirmation of exactly how many packages will be available. I’d imagine they will sell out whatever that number might be! Any Star Wars collector will know that limited edition memorabilia carries a high value in the collectors market. I’d not be at all surprised to see these selling for a bundle on online marketplaces.
It will be available in 13 countries including the UK and US.
The Star Wars edition is going to cost more than the regular Note10+. In the US, pricing starts at $1,300 for the standard spec model. That compares with $840 for the regular mobile, so an increase of around £350.
Is it expensive? Yes. Is it a bit gimmicky? Yes. Do I think my Star Wars loving husband will be wishing for this under the Christmas tree? Also yes.
