CES, hosted by the Consumer Technology Association, is about to kick off in Las Vegas. What can we expect to see from LG at CES 2020?
CES – a glimpse of the future
CES 2020 is almost upon us! This years convention runs 7th – 10th January at the Las Vegas Convention Centre and we couldn’t be more excited to see what the minds of tech have dreamed up for us.
CES describes it as the ‘ultimate platform for technology leaders to connect, collaborate, and propel consumer technology forward‘.
LG at CES 2019
Last year’s CES was full of interesting ideas. One stand out exhibitor was LG, who wowed the convention.
They introduced the LG Signature OLED TV R as a consumer-ready product. The 65″ rollable screen shows high-quality visuals on a sliver of a 3mm flexible display.
This was accompanied by the LG 8K 88″ Z9 OLED. It doesn’t roll up but is absolutely huge and with an astonishing 8K screen provides graphics that need to be seen to be believed.
Keeping with the TV theme, the showstopper was the ‘Massive Curve of Nature’. The installation was made up of 250 curved LG OLED screens – check it out below!
What’s in store for 2020?
Rumours abound, but given last years show there is little doubt that LG has big plans. We are expecting to see the first fully industry-certified 8K Ultra HD TV. This would make sense as LG is launching a range of ‘Real 8K TV’s’ at the convention.
There is also talk of a new range of gamer monitors. Let’s not forget that LG launched the very first IPS 1ms gaming monitor at E3 in June last year. The LG UltraGear Monitors offer an incredibly fast response time (I’m not sure you can get any quicker than one millisecond!).
LG’s Nano IPS 1ms monitor is incredibly speedy, and both the 38″ and 27″ models provide a 144Hz refresh rate for seamless gaming.
We don’t yet know whether CES 2020 will bring something new, but what LG has been working on in the six months since E3 is anyone’s guess!
A soundbar sound bite
In a press release just two days ago, LG confirmed that they are also presenting a series of soundbars ‘featuring premium quality audio, easy connectivity, smart functionality and sleek designs that integrate perfectly with LG’s stunning OLED and NanoCell TVs‘.
These new soundbars have been created through their ongoing partnership with Meridian Audio.
LG says that this new range uses its award-winning technologies as well as a new Image Elevation feature. This ‘widens the soundstage‘ and provides a ‘more lifelike listening experience by elevating the perceived height of lead instruments and vocals‘.
LG isn’t the only exhibitor amping up excitement. There is talk of Samsung introducing their ‘Zero Bezel TV’ at CES. The term was trademarked a couple of months ago, and it might finally be time to see the product that matches the name!
We’ll have to wait until next week to see if the leaked images are the real deal. However, if they are right then Samsung might well be introducing an 8K frameless TV. There are rumours that the LCD screen will hang completely flush, but won’t be quite as razor-thin as LG’s OLED TVs.
Whatever they deliver, if the track record of either of these Korean electronics giants is anything to go by, it is going to be extraordinary.
We’ll report the latest news throughout the convention, so stay tuned!
