End of an era

Android Authority reports that an in-game meteor destroyed the game’s island, causing an explosion. The impact then formed a black hole that swallowed the whole land. However, it wasn’t just the island that disappeared, the whole game went offline following this dramatic cutscene. Even those in the game’s lobby witnessed the island self and implode before seeing error messages.

Some assumed that this was a temporary situation and planned to tune in later. However, as players woke up in the morning, they found that there was still no way in.

The disappearance of the Fortnite universe has lead to speculation of arrival of the game’s chapter second chapter. First suggestions of this, first appeared on an App Store upload by Fortnite’s publishers. The upload stated the Italian term, “Capitolo 2”, which translates as “Chapter 2”. Along with this, the photo accompanying the post shows an unfamiliar map. The upload has since been taken down, fuelling even more speculation.

Therefore, rather than launching a new season of the beloved series, Epic Games is launching a whole new instalment of the franchise. According to a now deleted tweet by a data miner, features of the new instalment include new actions such as fishing and carrying drowned teammates. There are also upgraded boats according to findings by the miner.

Time for a change

It has been over two years since Fortnite made its debut. Fortnite: Save the World was released on July 25, 2017 but it was the response to Fortnite: Battle Royale that made it the the most popular game in the world today.

This edition was first released on September 26 of the same year and helped the franchise make an estimated total revenue of $2.4 billion in 2018. By releasing Chapter 2 now, it will be the perfect time for Epic Games to reap the benefits just in time for the holidays.

It’s likely that there will be an announcement regarding the game today as Epic won’t want to miss out on lost action for too long. Players will also be extremely frustrated that they won’t be able to get going on their favorite pastime.

While we wait for further announcements, check out the video below, showing the end of the world that we spent everyday of the last two years in.
